Five Beginner Fitness Mistakes You Need to Avoid

It’s easy to make fitness mistakes as a beginner. Fortunately, you will have plenty of time to correct them as you become more accustomed to the fitness lifestyle. Here are five beginner fitness mistakes you should try to avoid:

Not Having a Fitness Plan

Wandering aimlessly around the gym doing different exercises or constantly switching up routines is a common beginner mistake. Before you begin your fitness journey, making sure you set an achievable goal and a proper workout plan will help you reach your goals There are plenty of beginner workout plans available online, you just need to pick one that best suits your needs.

Skipping Workout Days

Yes, you feel sore and tired from yesterday’s workout. Yes, it’s normal to feel that way. However, you have to be consistent if you want to keep continuing down the path to fitness. If you have four days marked as workout days during the week, make sure you follow through and get all of your workouts done. “Getting it done” is something you need to train yourself to do. Remember, rest when you are done not when you are tired.

Ignoring Warm-Ups

Warm-ups can vary from getting your heart rate faster by doing some cardio, to simple stretching. If you want to prepare your body for the various movements you will have to do for your workout, you have to do a comprehensive warm-up that involves dynamic stretching, activation exercises and different types of movement preparation in order to condition your body  better. The difference between simple warm-ups and comprehensive warm-ups is, simple warm-ups only target one of the three main areas which should be involved in a proper workout; Nervous System, Joint and Muscle. Whereas a comprehensive warm-up targets all of them.

Not Tracking Your Progress

Record EVERYTHING that you can record – what exercises you did and what kind of weight you used, the reps and the sets too. Track your calories consumed by using apps like MyFitnessPal, and it’s not a bad idea to take pictures of your physique periodically to see what changed. Measuring your body fat percentage can help too, and there are methods to do that, or your gym can help you. You can use all this information to see the areas you’ve improved on, and the areas you haven’t, and you can adjust your diet or your exercise program accordingly.

Not Being in the Right Environment

Being in the right environment can motivate you to get your workout done and achieve your fitness goals, like being in a gym, or being in a group workout with like-minded people.
